๐ Call (302) 613-0041Sedation dentistry uses safe medication to help you relax or sleep during dental treatment. Bear Glasgow Dental offers four levels to patients across Delaware: nitrous oxide (laughing gas), a calming pill, IV sedation, and general anesthesia, for patients ages 3 and up. It's a good fit for dental anxiety, phobia, sensitive gag reflex, low pain tolerance, or anyone who wants a more comfortable visit.
Sedation dentistry uses safe, well-tested medications to help you relax during your visit. It's not only for people with severe phobia. It's for anyone who wants a more comfortable experience, whether that's a routine cleaning or something more involved.
If you've been avoiding the dentist because of fear, a past bad experience, or simply not knowing what to expect, we can help. We see patients from all over Delaware who haven't been to a dentist in years and treat them the same as everyone else: with patience, without judgment, and without any mention of how long it's been.
Before any sedation, our team reviews your full medical history. A licensed clinician watches over you throughout the procedure. You're never left alone, and we don't start until you feel ready.

"I got into sedation dentistry because I kept seeing patients who needed care but were too scared to get it. Nobody should go without treatment because of fear."
We offer every level of sedation so your treatment plan is always matched to your needs, no matter how mild or significant your anxiety may be.
Yes, or as close to it as is safely possible. Most patients searching for a "sleep dentist near you" are looking for IV sedation, often called sleep dentistry. You're not technically unconscious, but you're in such a deep, relaxed, sleep-like state that almost no one remembers the appointment afterward. Patients regularly tell us, "It felt like I slept through it."
For patients who need to be fully asleep โ children with significant special needs, severe phobia, or specific medical situations โ we also offer general anesthesia.
See which sedation level is right for you โSedation dentistry isn't only for people with severe fear or phobia. If you want a more comfortable, painless visit for any reason, you qualify. We will never make you feel bad about how long it's been since your last appointment.
If fear of the dentist keeps you from scheduling or completing dental appointments, sedation removes that barrier. Whether you experience mild nervousness or severe dental phobia, we're the calm dentist for nervous patients, and we take your anxiety seriously.
Sedation dentistry for sensitive gag reflex patients is one of our most common requests. A strong gag reflex makes X-rays, impressions, and even cleanings uncomfortable, sedation relaxes this response and makes treatment completely tolerable.
Some patients need more than local anesthesia for a truly painless visit. Sedation works alongside numbing so you feel absolutely nothing, even if you've had procedures in the past that weren't as comfortable as they should have been.
Need fillings, extractions, implants, or a full mouth restoration? As a sedation dentist for multiple procedures, we can complete extensive treatment in a single comfortable visit, saving you time, multiple co-pays, and multiple recovery periods.
Patients with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, Alzheimer's, cerebral palsy, or other conditions may find dental chairs and procedures overwhelming. Sedation makes treatment accessible and safe.
A painful or frightening dental experience, or even dental trauma from childhood, can create lasting anxiety and dental phobia. Sedation helps you reclaim your comfort and rebuild a positive, relaxed dental experience going forward.
Some patients don't get fully numb from standard injections alone. This is a real and common issue, not a personal failing. Sedation fills that gap so you truly feel nothing during your procedure.
Children who are too young, too anxious, or too uncooperative for routine dental work can safely receive nitrous oxide or, in some cases, stronger sedation to complete necessary treatment.
We walk every patient through a clear, comfortable process from consultation to recovery. No surprises, no fear of the unknown. Just a calm, pain-free dental experience from start to finish.
We review your complete medical and dental history, current medications, and anxiety level. Together we identify the sedation option best suited to your needs and the procedure you're having done.
You'll receive detailed written instructions tailored to your sedation type, what to eat or avoid, how to prepare transportation, and what to expect on the day of your appointment. For oral and IV sedation, we may prescribe a pre-appointment medication to help you sleep well the night before.

You are in control. If you need a moment, need to stop, or just need reassurance, signal our team and we pause immediately. We never continue treatment if you're not comfortable.

It depends on the level. With nitrous oxide you remain fully awake but relaxed. With oral conscious sedation you are drowsy but responsive. IV sedation produces a sleep-like state with no memory of the procedure. General anesthesia results in complete unconsciousness.

What our patients say
I hadn't seen a dentist in 11 years because of fear. With IV sedation, I had three teeth fixed in one visit and I remember almost nothing. I've been back twice since and I'm not scared anymore.
M.T., Newark, DE
They explained every single step before touching me. When they showed me what would happen, I finally relaxed. It was the first dental visit I didn't dread walking into.
K.R., Bear, DE
My son has sensory sensitivities and has never been able to sit through a cleaning. The nitrous oxide changed everything. He was calm the whole appointment. The staff were patient and clearly experienced with anxious kids.
