What Is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry uses safe medication to help you relax or sleep during dental treatment. Bear Glasgow Dental offers four levels to patients across Delaware: nitrous oxide (laughing gas), a calming pill, IV sedation, and general anesthesia, for patients ages 3 and up. It's a good fit for dental anxiety, phobia, sensitive gag reflex, low pain tolerance, or anyone who wants a more comfortable visit.

Initial Consultation
We review your complete medical and dental history, current medications, and anxiety level. Together we identify the sedation option best suited to your needs and the procedure you're having done.
Pre-Procedure Preparation
You'll receive detailed written instructions tailored to your sedation type, what to eat or avoid, how to prepare transportation, and what to expect on the day of your appointment. For oral and IV sedation, we may prescribe a pre-appointment medication to help you sleep well the night before.
Day of Your Appointment
Arrive with a trusted companion if required. Free parking is right outside our door at Peoples Plaza. Our team greets you warmly, answers any last questions, and administers your sedation. We wait until you feel fully comfortable before beginning. You can signal us at any time to pause or stop. Your oxygen and heart rate are monitored continuously throughout.
Treatment
With sedation in effect, our dentists work efficiently and comfortably, often completing work that would otherwise require multiple visits. You may feel relaxed, drowsy, or fully unaware depending on your sedation level, but you are safe and monitored throughout.
Recovery & Aftercare
For nitrous oxide, recovery takes just minutes. For oral and IV sedation, you'll rest comfortably at our office until you're ready to leave with your designated driver. We provide written aftercare instructions and our team is available by phone if you have any questions during your recovery at home.

Yes. Bear Glasgow Dental provides safe dental sedation for patients as young as 3 years old. Nitrous oxide is the most common and safest choice for children. Our team performs a thorough medical history review, monitors vital signs continuously, and follows strict pediatric safety protocols.
It depends on the level. With nitrous oxide you remain fully awake but relaxed. With oral conscious sedation you are drowsy but responsive. IV sedation produces a sleep-like state with no memory of the procedure. General anesthesia results in complete unconsciousness.
For nitrous oxide only, most patients can drive themselves home. For oral conscious sedation, IV sedation, and general anesthesia, you must have a responsible adult (18+) drive you and remain with you for at least 24 hours.
