Autism Spectrum
Predictable routines, fewer surprises, and sensory accommodations — with sedation available when the environment is simply too much.
Patient, sensory-aware dental care for children with autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and other special needs. When the dental office feels like too much, sedation can make safe, complete care possible — without fear or force.
For many families, the dentist is one of the hardest places to go. The bright lights, the high-pitched sounds, the new smells, the feeling of someone close to your child's face — for a child with sensory sensitivities or a developmental difference, all of it can be genuinely overwhelming. Some children can't hold still, some can't process what's about to happen, and some have been turned away from other offices that weren't equipped to help.
That isn't how it works here. We start by listening to you, because no one knows your child better. What helps them feel safe? What sets them off? What words or routines do you use at home? We build the visit around your child rather than expecting your child to fit a standard appointment.
When a child truly cannot tolerate treatment while awake, sedation is not a failure — it's a compassionate, accepted way to provide the dental care they need safely and without trauma. Our goal is always the gentlest approach that works for your child.
A pre-visit conversation. Before your child ever sits in the chair, we talk through their triggers, comforts, communication style, and medical history. You can tell us everything that helps — favorite toys, headphones, a preferred time of day, words to use or avoid.
Accommodations that reduce overload. Where possible, we adjust lighting, sound, and pacing, allow comfort items, and let your child move at their speed. Sometimes a short, low-pressure familiarization visit comes first.
Sedation matched to your child. When awake treatment isn't realistic, we choose the right level — from laughing gas for milder needs to deeper sedation or general anesthesia when extensive care must be completed safely in one session. Every dose is weight-based and your child is monitored continuously.
Completing care in fewer visits. For many special-needs children, getting everything done in a single sedated appointment is far kinder than repeated stressful trips. We plan treatment so your child endures the dental experience as few times as possible.
Children with special needs sometimes have additional medical considerations, which is exactly why we review everything before recommending sedation. We go over your child's full health history, medications, allergies, and any specialist input, and we follow AAPD and American Academy of Pediatrics protocols for monitoring and dosing.
Throughout treatment, your child's oxygen and heart rate are tracked continuously, a trained clinician stays with them the entire time, and emergency equipment is always on hand. We never begin until your child is settled, and we'll always be honest if we believe a hospital or specialist setting would be safer for your child's particular situation.
